I just found file-remote-p, which may be the right solution.

For tramp you'll need to RTM, but for efs its /[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/[file path]
IIRC ange-ftp uses the same syntax as efs.
You cold change the extension filter to a regexp filter i guess.
