If /dev/stdout was available on AIX, IRIX, etc. then we would not need
to jump through some of these hoops. And can emacs generally read
from stdin and write to stdout?
If emacs is available on the remote host, why use rcp.el? If a slow
or restricted connection is the problem then stick with something like
here$ telnet there
there$ emacs -nw ...
