Quite a few things have happened since the last announcement. Mostly,
I incorporated user-contributed fixes. There's a chance that remote
VC will now work again with Emacs :-) Here's the full story:

revision 1.172
date: 1999/10/17 16:52:24; author: grossjoh; state: Exp; lines: +3 -2
rcp-run-real-handler: Don't let it run ange-ftp functions. That does
not make any sense anyway, and it makes remote VC not work.
----------------------------
revision 1.171
date: 1999/10/17 10:34:09; author: grossjoh; state: Exp; lines: +29 -5
Daniel Pittman: file-name-directory and file-name-nondirectory are
        handled from Lisp.
----------------------------
revision 1.170
date: 1999/10/16 11:50:50; author: grossjoh; state: Exp; lines: +63 -44
Daniel Pittman:
        * advice around 'vc-do-command' and 'vc-simple-command' now
uses the buffer file name if none was passed in.
        * Added 'rcp-vc-setup-for-remote' to support remote VC backend
          release numbers.
        * Miscellaneous comment changes and TODO updates.

revision 1.169
date: 1999/10/16 11:45:19; author: grossjoh; state: Exp; lines: +1 -6
rcp-handle-insert-file-contents: comment about Emacs vs. XEmacs
removed: signaling a file-error is the right thing to do on
        both Emacsen.
----------------------------
revision 1.168
date: 1999/10/16 11:44:19; author: grossjoh; state: Exp; lines: +11 -6
Daniel Pittman: signal file-error from rcp-handle-insert-file-contents
        if file does not exist.
----------------------------
revision 1.167
date: 1999/10/16 11:37:24; author: grossjoh; state: Exp; lines: +2 -2
Francesco Potort: doc fix.

revision 1.166
date: 1999/10/16 11:29:14; author: grossjoh; state: Exp; lines: +20 -9
Removed depenence on CL at run time.
More timing issues :-(

revision 1.165
date: 1999/10/13 20:41:29; author: grossjoh; state: Exp; lines: +31 -18
rcp-handle-file-local-copy, rcp-handle-write-region: Do some error
checking on calling the rcp program. Thanks to Francesco for
        pointing this out.

There have also been some doc changes -- would you like to see the
change logs for the documentation, too?

As always, the right place to go is
ftp://ls6-ftp.cs.uni-dortmund.de/pub/src/emacs/rcp.tar.gz
But this time, I have also put rcp.el into the same directory for
those of you who do not care about the documentation...
