I see the message came from tramp-vc.el, and indeed, my ~/.emacs is
under RCS control. It was checked out when I tried this. I am using
the vc.el which came with XEmacs 21.1.9 in case it matters.
Just found out that it works if I give my user name like
"/r:cmarquar@sol-cmarquar:~/.emacs". Hmmm. Does that give you enough
info?
I also forgot to mention that it asks me for my password, but you
probably guessed that from the description already.
