Thought it might be something like that.  And probably a rare
circumstance too, to have telnetd setup in an unusual way.

With my lisp skill level that will probably happen at about the same
time they start selling `snowcones' in the hot place.  But I
understand that this would not be seen as an important issue.  Further
I can use ange-ftp on this particular remote so have a handy and good
workaround.
