Dear Emailer list experts,

Could Claris Emailer send out the Klez Virus from a Mac while I was
connected to the Internet?

I have just been told I might have the Klez virus? Is that possible on a
Mac G4 with Virex last updated on 5/01/02? I just tried to obtain a more
recent update and received a message that my files are up to date.

This morning after collecting an initial batch of mail and staying on
line to answer some if it, I logged off. About an hour later I connected
again and I received a bunch of bounced emails which I never sent with my
AOL return address on them as if I had sent them this morning (during
that time frame I was logged on to the internet - but not logged into AOL
- and composing email in the Claris Application).

Then a mailing list I am on received some viruses which did not have my
name on them, but in the headers section containing the return path with
the server addresses is a server address of the location from which I
received the bounced and rejected emails (that I never sent).

The other piece of interesting information is that I think the source of
the virus sent to me could be from the same server where all the bounced
emails were coming. It is from a University's server and I often receive
a weekly mailing from them on Tuesday which I did not receive today.
Also the fact that the university's server info was in the headers of the
virus email that arrived at my mailing list makes me also think the
University must be the one infected. Is this possible or does this make
sense to anyone?

I have been logging into AOL via TCP/IP connection recently rather than
dialing in and downloading. Is it possible that while I was connected to
the internet, a virus could "look" at my email address book or an email I
was composing to the mailing list and obtain that address and send a
virus?

I am further suspicious because the two viruses sent to the mailing list
I am on and the bounced emails I received appear to have been generated
during the time frame I was connected to the internet after collecting my
initial batch of AOL mail.

I would be glad to send some of the header detail if someone can help me,
but I did not want to further clutter this message with that info.

Thanks for any help anyone can give.
