I was just thinking that if it always happen, you could try quitting Emailer and dragging your Addrss Book out of the Claris Emailer Files and somewhere else on your hard drive. When you launch Emailer again it should create a new empty address book. Now try repeating the steps that caused your group entries to disappear.
Did they disappear? If not, it means your address is definitely corrupt and needs to be replaced.
