>From the screenshot on the author's page, iBeeZz adds a preference pane
to OS X' system preferences that is extremely similar to the control
panel you're used to in 9.2.2. So if it works as advertised (it's not a
final release), you already know how to use it.

David Pogue's workaround of setting the schedules using OS 9's control
panel seems tedious but would definitely work, especially since you
apparently only want to set it once.

The scheduled wake up and shut down is really nothing more than an alarm
clock, a real hardware one, just slightly different in shape from the one
you're wearing ;)

All that is missing from OS X is the controls to set it, hence iBeeZz
which mimics OS9's.

Look for "iBeeZz" using the search field at www.macupdate.com to find the
latest version and the program's home page.

There is one difference from OS 9 though, when it comes to launching
items at startup: you used to put aliases to those items in the startup
items folder, now you drag the items to the list in the "login items"
prefpane, which allows you to change their launch order.

If some items are Classic apps like Emailer, there might be another catch
since Classic can ask for confirmation before actually launching (you can
toggle this confirmation in the "Classic" prefpane, where you can set
Classic to automatically launch at login too).

But you can also use the OS 9 system folder's startup items: those items
will launch each time Classic starts up or each time mac OS 9 boots.
