>If you still have to review the post in the potential spam folder before >deleting it, how does this save any time compared to just reviewing it in >the in box when it arrives and deleting it then?
This is actually a very subtle phsychological difference that makes the time savings. When spam is in your inbox, it is mixed with good email, and you need to slow down your looking and thinking to filter between spam and non spam. You have to contemplate each email as your brain decides if it is a keeper or junker. When you move it to its own "chances are very good this is spam" folder, you can spot scan the folder for things that catch your attention as being potentially good, and the rest can be ignored. Now your brain only processes key little bits that will stand out as "maybe I want to look at this" data. I know it doesn't seem like it will save you any time, but it really will. It all has to do with how the brain processes the info and how much time it spends thinking about each item. To do a test for this yourself, grab a book, any book. Scan thru as fast as you can looking for the word "FOR". See how long it takes you. Now repeat it, looking for the letter "F". Believe it or not, looking for the letter "F" only can take longer. When looking for the word "FOR" you are processing large chunks of data looking for a specific item, but you aren't processing what the unwanted data is, so you same brain time. When looking for just the letter "F" you need to process all the small bits of data (decode the words) looking for the specific letter burried inside it. This needs more brain power, and results in a slower search. When spam is mixed with good email, you are searching for the letter "F", when it is broken into its own folder, you are searching for the word "FOR". >Is it just a matter of when in your day you are willing to devote time to >it? That helps too. Gets it all out of the way until you have more time to devote to it. -chris <http://www.mythtech.net> ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe send a mail message with a SUBJECT line of "unsubscribe" to <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> or <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
