Well, if you're bent on that way, what can I do? Who asked for absolutely 
necessary? What about top performance on old hardware? My advice can be 
summed up as: "If you're going to spend on RAM to run OS X, go all the 
way beyond Apples old ratings and at least to 512 MB. "

384 may be usable, but 512 is more fun!

That was a typical work week for a friend of mine. She uses 1.5 GB on a 
800 mhz G4 and, man, does it smoke. I never reboot my OS X machines 
myself.
