I'm not saying to stop at 384, but I got that and baby hums nicely. Heck, on top of what you've listed, load up Maya and leave her running a week and see if your G4 isn't flatulating all over itself. More RAM is always better, but it's not absolutely necessary to have 512 to run OS X.
