And thanks to the DCMA, it is illegal to try to reverse engineer the AOL
mail aspects. ;-)

Are you saying that this project *could* happen? I was under the
impression that "no way in hell" would Apple ever allow Emailer to be
updated, even if it could hand the source to third parties who would give
it back to Apple for free. That would be wonderful, and I bet there are a
few developers who would love the project of Carbonizing Emailer - even
for a shareware donation fee.
The other problem is Apple won't sell Emailer anymore, so it is only
useful for those who legally own a copy... I seriously doubt Apple would
release Emailer as a free product if there were a 2.04 updater - if they
would, it would be heaven! Maybe this is a question for a WWDC Q&A
session. ;-)

Mail has its own problems, and will simply "lose" mail when it gets
upset. Plus, it cannot turn off html, attachments are stuck in container
hell, and generally it is a package for ultralightweight users, IMO. I
use Emailer as hard as one can, with 5000-10000 deleted emails a month,
400MB database container, and it has been corrupted since 1998, but has
not spread, and is totally reliable except for the problems of not being
able to create fully working new folders, and a few other hassles. No
other program is as simple for managing 20+ email accounts, that I have
seen. Eventually, I will switch also, but it will be to something which
does not exist today.
