It happens both ways. My take is that it gives a plain-text rendition when it can, and creates a local HTML page when it can't. Sometimes both. Occasionally, the HTML page renders strangely, but it works fine in the huge percentage of cases I've tried. I'm not entirely sure how it decides which thing to do. What I really like is the fact that it often gives me plain text, and gives me the option to look at a local version when it can't. That allows me to make the decision, based on my own reasons, whether or not I want to display the HTML. If I decide I want to, it is readily available. I usually don't, since the huge majority of HTML mail I receive is spam. And when I discard the spam, the attached local file that was created by Mailsmith is discarded as well. That's something that eMailer didn't handle very well.
