A similar problem:

I subscribe to the online Salon magazine which sends daily newsletters 
listing the articles they have online. Until recently they came in plain 
text, but now consistently they look like this:

More readable text follows but it's still not plain text.

I've written to Salon to tell them about the problem but got no response. 
Does anyone have an explanation for this?
