An intriguing - if outside - possibility has opened up as a potential 
solution to the difficulty in setting Emailer as the default email 
application (it reverts to Mail).

If a trial of PowerMail is downloaded from  www.ctmdev.com  an additional 
folder of Extras comes bundled with it. Within this is a utility called 
MisFox that promises to 'show the "default internet applications", all 
the "file mappings" settings and the "protocol helpers". You can inspect 
these settings, but you can also edit, delete and create new items for 
these settings.'

Maybe, just maybe, it will be possible to use this to hack around the 
present impasse . . .
