That is actually EXACTLY what it is there for. It is part of Apple's
tools to make computing more accessible for people with sight
problems. They have "Sticky Keys" as well that enables someone to use
modifier keys without the need to hold multiple keys down at once.
I merely copied what is printed on my brand new APPLE keyboard,
which I
bought from the UK APPLE store last week. In fact, looking at all
four of
my Macs, the only one that has "option" is the 1999 iBook which has
that
word printed beneath "alt". I mean, I would hate to confuse anyone who
has bought a Mac in the last 6 years!
So maybe the shame is not on me but on Apple? ;-)
Humm... I guess it is a UK thing. I have a brand new Apple keyboard
from here in the US and it has Option (as well as Alt in small print
above it, like your iBook has). I wonder why Apple dropped the term
Option on UK keyboards.
