Mark James writes, <I have been having serious problems with emailer for a while now.
I am getting a couple clues, now, but another problem popped up. 1. About 50% of incoming mail is duplicated. Sometimes 2 minutes apart, sometimes 20-30 minutes. It is not on a per account basis, so I don't think this is the .dstore problem. I also deleted the temp folder to eliminate this. This started about a month ago. Some accounts (I have 20+ email accounts in two seperate running versions of emailer) get almost no dups, some get 3-4 a day, and some are at 50% duplicates. No rhyme or reason I can see. 2. incoming files losing their attachment suffixes. .bin. dmg, /png, etc. Some come in, most do not now. In the past few days, though, I am getting corrupted files. I also get a few "double files", which are badly munged "apple double" files. Now that I am getting apple doubles munged together, it is getting worse. I reinstalled Expander to try to fix this. Could it be that? What version are people running of expander under 10.4?> Well, Mark -- and all Emailer listers -- it's time to shock the living daylights out of you (it sure as hell shocked ME): I recently got a G4 Quicksilver 867, and I finally tried OS X. I even downloaded/installed the 10.4.8 update. I found that I can still run OS X and not give up any of my "real" Classic: and I haven't. Which means, I'm still running Emailer (I'm still not up to even TRYING Mail.app. although I use and really enjoy just about all the other apps which came with OS X). Got 2 HDs, my original Nucleus transplanted into the G4 from my old G3 Beige, still on 9.2.2, and the Tiger HD which came on 10.4.7 but got updated to 10.4.8. ANYHOO: I am running Emailer just fine when booted up on my OS X drive, Tiger (I'm coming to you on 10.4.8 right now in fact). The only glitch I've had on occasion is that sometimes I'll see a whole bunch of emails coming in on the Connection Status Screen, but they don't "unpack" the way they did under straight OS 9 -- and they "disappear." First time that happened it scared the living crap out of me, but I quickly (though accidentally) found out that if I quit Emailer and then reboot it, all the "missing" emails automatically show up in my Inbox. Now it doesn't bother me at all when that happens. Not having problems with attachments (yet?) -- then again I don't get that many, at least not many that I'm willing to examine and open (I still only open attachments from people I know, ones I was expecting to get). The version of Expander I'm using is 7.0.3 Stuffit Standard -- actually, I picked that up while still exclusively on OS 9. ~Yersinia. ________ "My answer to the covers-every-occasion statement about men's mistakes that 'it's in their genes' is that if they didn't have in their jeans what they've got in their jeans, we'd leave them cold, hungry and naked." ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe send a mail message with a SUBJECT line of "unsubscribe" to <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> or <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
