Oh, another note. I had recently returned from a brief holiday. I had

When you copy a folder using OS X, the Finder will create
the .DS_Store file in it. So when you moved your Emailer folder
between machines, your system stuck that file in there in the process.
Anyone suggest what happened?
Are you running the latest version of SilverKeeper? According to
LaCie's web site, it should work with OS X, so I would think that you
should NOT run into the problem you were seeing. I'm curious if
Emailer in some way corrupts the .DS_Store file when it comes across
it (although that shouldn't be an issue if this also effected your
downloads folder, as Emailer doesn't try to read from that folder,
just write... but I could see Emailer screwing something up with the
copy in the Temp Incoming folder as it attempts to read it as an
email and then delete it)
You can always try to reproduce the problem and if it happens again,
report it to LaCie as a potential bug.
