Actually, they bought DOS from someone else, and pitched it to IBM, who decided to license it from them. At least I *think* that is the way it goes... but like with all history involving rich people and/or entities, it tends to get distorted over time as the rich people try to make themselves look less like thieves and the people they screwed thru the years try to make them look more like scoundrels.
