For some reason, the Apple Printer Utility 2.2 sw maintains the printer

I've installed a fresh copy of the Apple Printer Utility sw, to no avail.
The black outline around the desktop printer icon persists. I've also
tried disk first aid and Norton Disk Doctor. No luck.

I don't know what caused this situation. Nor do I know how to correct it.
Advice welcomed.

The black outline denotes the currently selected printer. If you only have one printer, it is rather pointless, but if you have multiple printers setup, then the black outline is very handy as a quick glance to know which is the currently selected "default" printer.

In other words, there is no way to get rid of it, it is there for a reason and is supposed to be there.
