I need to purchase a thumb drive for my Mac that I know will also be

Can anyone recommend a thumb drive that will work cross platform
seamlessly?

Yes, since you are running OS X, any USB stick "thumb drive" will work with OS X. The one exception are the models that happen to have U3 software. The U3 is used for security as well as auto launching certain programs, and so they are formatted a little different and require certain features of Windows to work 100% correctly.

You can probably reformat a U3 drive to a regular FAT32 drive which will then make it usable on both Mac and PC by simply plugging it in. Of course, you will lose the U3 "extras" but since it is those very extras that are keeping them from working on your Mac, that really isn't much of a downside.

You should be able to find nice simple dirt cheap USB sticks from a number of vendors that will work just fine. I regularly see them in store weekly flyers for next to nothing depending on the size you want.

The two I own won't help you much as a recommendation for a specific brand. One is a MacAlly branded one that I won at a MacWorld Expo (you had to be present to win, they called the first 3 people, then called me... I actually heard them calling my name from a few booths away so I ran over and claimed the drive). The 2nd is a Swiss Army branded one that came with a little knife. My sister thought I would like it, and that some how it would be a substitute for the large multi-feature model I've kept on me since I was a kid. So I pulled the USB stick out of it and just use it (it was also sold as some "air traveler" unit, which I found really ironic because I got it after 9-11 which meant I'd no longer be able to carry it on a plane anyway due to the 3/4" knife blade on it... because there might be some way to use that to take over a plane... I guess if I mixed it with a bottle of water and some nail clippers I'd get something useful)
