It's a reasonable technical question, but on the user side, I think you are
suggesting an unreasonable practice.

No one wants to receive an attached .gif unless it's part of the message.
If you want to include your contact information, I think it is better to put
it in your signature.  (For example, see mine, below.)

What you want to do is covered by attaching a .vcf file.  The Mac OS's
Address Book (and Entourage's too, and I expect Mail.app, too) know how to
automatically handle a .vcf file.  But, too me, .vcf is a pain in the butt.
Who wants that attachment on every email from someone?  Attaching a .gif
would likely increase the simple text email's size from 1k to 500 k.  What a
waste of bandwidth and hard disk space.
