Dear List, I'm afraid this could be a serious problem.
Over the past days, there has been a series of hangups (at least here in Europe) of Claris Emailer following spam messages that contain accolades/ braces within the subject of a mail message. Maybe, the software hangs because these delimitter characters appear also within the headers. Anyway.. When such a mail comes in, the connection window starts counting the bytes, like 1.04 Kb out of 470.5 Kb and it stops there, at the beginning. Emailer hangs and I have to force quit. Right after that, I can restart emailer, but it will again do the same thing. If I go into the server mailbox, and clean out some emails that are spam (as i did by using an old version of ICQ that allows to eliminate mails without opening them); then I can go back in with emailer and it will work fine. Does an accolade / brace have a special meaning when read in from the input stream ? I'm not sure if it matters if the accolade / brace is at the first position, and/or if it would cause harm in other fields besides subject. I suspect so. Several people are havng the problem here, and it does not matter which ISp or mail server we use. As soon as such a mail is in there, the stuff hangs.
