That's the essential piece of information which solved
the problem.

I switched back to the non-587 "Auth" version of Emailer
and my email went out perfectly through Verizon.

I need Port 587 because I use public wi-fi hotspots when
on the road. At home now I'm on Verizon wireless but I
keep my MacDialup account and use it as my POP server
because it's cheap, the tech support is personal and
friendly, and it's a backup both at home if Verizon has
outages, and on the road if there is no hotspot where I
happen to be.

It was the MacDialup tech, who is a former Emailer user,
who emailed me the p3-587 when it went over my head that
that was what I needed. Never can have too much advice
when you are a low-power-user.

I don't plan to use my Verizon account for sending email,
but I wanted to get it set up so that it works just in
case. It looks like, if I do want to use the Verizon
account to send, I will have to switch to the non-587
Emailer, and if on the road use dialup to get my mail out.
That's not so bad if I can use the public wi-fi for
everything else, and then make a dialup connection just
to get the outgoing email out. But it's a good reason to
keep using MacDialup as my POP and avoid the switcheroo
when on the road.

Thanks to both Chris and Mark James for getting this
glitch ironed out!

Best regards,

Bill
