Chris is right, that any app that you use in doing an AppleScript by recording must be both scriptable AND recordable. But this low-power-user did not even know that there are apps which are scriptable but not recordable. Just goes to prove again that a novice can do this recording business. Anyway, Tex-Edit Plus fills the bill, and you'll need to get it to run thru this example if you don't already have it.
