I have used Emailchemy several times to try various methods of archiving. It has worked quite well and is fast. I have even used it to export CE to a csv text file and imported that into Filemaker. It worked but wasn't exactly what I needed. Right now I am archiving my mail into mbox format which is still not exactly what I want but I can use those files when something better comes along. My current client will save the database as mbox so that is easy. The major task is trying to avoid duplications in the archive.
