I send a couple of messages to the new Mail list (which I had thought I had joined but maybe I hadn't yet been approved, cuz those mails seem to have gone astray.....). I have incorporated them into one and am sending them to you guys, in case there is someone saavy enough to know how to fix my problem. (And of course I would rather try this list first before asking strangers!)
I really only use Mail when I want to send a link from a webpage and Firefox doesn't recognize Emailer as a suitable vehicle! I only have one account set up in Mail that is currently active. (The only inactive account uses the same outgoing server since I only have one.) Occasionally I get an alert saying that Mail can't use my outgoing server. This just happened again and given the choice of Cancel, Try Again Later or Use the Selected Server, I made the mistake of clicking on Use the Selected Server (without thinking). Unfortunately, the "selected server" was an account I had set up (for free) with mac.com when I first bought a new computer a few years ago. The account expired and I haven't therefore used it since. So, when the window came up to enter my mac.com password, I cancelled the Send, and went to Resend. BUT, Mail will not let me resend this message without filling in my mac.com password! So, I tried cutting and pasting into a New Message and Mail still insists on sending via a mac.com account that does not exist in reality or in my Mail set up (prefs). a) Is there some way to change this misinformation that Mail seems to have retained and get it to go back to using my real server? (I checked the new glodark Mail List page and found related advice to getting Mail to recognize a server that it may have cancelled without telling you - but it involved going to Message>Online Status and making a change. I have no item: Online Status under Message on my version of Mail.) b) Why does Mail think it can't send using my server when CE never has that problem? Thanks!
