I had to make SSL connections to a server some years ago and used SSL
Enabler (which provides a GUI to stunnel)
<http://www.wurd.com/cl_ssl_osx_enabler.php>. That was a long time ago
and I'm sure the procedure has been updated, but in principle it should
still work.

In the end I fixed the SSL issue by switching to Thunderbird
<http://getthunderbird.com/> which is free, open source, cross platform
and sufficiently like Claris Emailer for me (Apple's Mail was - and
probably still is - less advanced and harder to use than Thunderbird).

I don't think that PGP will provide an SSL tunnel, but I haven't used
or upgraded it for many years. I use the free MacGPG
<http://macgpg.sourceforge.net/> instead.

jwq.
