I switched from Claris Emailer to Entourage over a year ago, and it's gone
well.

I'm at a college that uses the MS Exchange Server to handle all email across
campus, and I was having one irritating network problem after another trying
to hang onto CE. Finally the months of frustration wore me out, and I
capitulated. I must say that the campus techies tolerated my Mac obstinance
for a good long while, but the technical problems persisted, and they
finally, gently, convinced me that my life would be easier using Entourage.
I hated to give up CE, but they were right: Entourage has its oddities and
clunky aspects, but generally it functions well. It is especially nice to
be able to see exactly the same folders and saved email from both home and
office. Indeed, while traveling, I can access the Exchange Server and see
the very same folders via a web browser. It was very nifty to sit in my
hotel lobby in Sweden this summer and be able to read all of my email, both
new and old.

Importing CE folders into Entourage worked extremely well. My address book
also imported well, although the email groups were lost. (Most of them were
outdated anyway, so this was no great loss.)

In the next few months, I'm going to use DIFfersifer to translate two
ancient Hypercard stacks into Filemaker Pro database files. Once that is
done, I will no longer be clinging to any Classic apps, and I can then
consider moving to OS 10.5.

I happily used CE for over a decade, and I regretted giving it up. I still
think it's better, on the whole, than Entourage. But at least Entourage
works for me reliably, every day.

I still subscribe to this list, obviously, although it's clear that the
traffic is slowly fading away. And I see that Chris is still chiming in
with helpful tips---he saved my CE bacon many times, back in the day. He
and the many other knowledgeable CE users on this list helped this 'ancient'
piece of software enjoy a longer life than could possibly have been
imagined.

CE will live forever in our Macintosh hearts!

Bob Fowler
