Bea asked >Powermail does sound interesting - but in what way is it the closest? >Appearance, operation, organization?
All three. The appearance can be configured - I use a three pane window with a narrow list of folders running down the left hand side, Message titles and authors in the main pane, and below it the content of any message selected is previewed. The operation appears to have been derived from Emailer's, or heavily influenced by it. There are for example scripts to Change Subject, Set Date to Now, etc. Organisation is pretty intuitive for anyone familiar with Emailer. One caveat: although PowerMail will purportedly import Emailer files it struggles with large message databases and the use of a third party utility (whose name I forget) is recommended.
