I don't guess there was much more point to my question than satisfying curiosity. I tried an upload with a Classic FTP app and a download with a Classic browser... neither seemed to spike the CPU. But in the end it hardly matters. I have most of my regular correspondents 'trained' not to send large mail attachments, and have trained myself to post anything 'bulky' to my own web space for others to view, rather than sending them via email. Curiosity still has a tendency to kill this cat.
