     I think your first option sounds like it works better - I've done 
this too! but not for the same reason i.e. Mail!

     I didn't get the compress bit - only suggesting AppleSingle!

     Like all of us??

     Don't know why but I've been unable to log onto such a group and I 
need one desperately in the Studio City (Los Angeles) areza.  Just spent 
$200 with a guy who left with me as many problems as he solved!

 I took my Classic to this tech guy as well as my old machine to recover 
some 4-year mac.  He had all the latest gear - wonderful stuff and when 
he saw my system 9 laptop - he said " fantastic - that Titanium is in the 
smithsonian"!!
