This is sometimes problematic when dealing with high currents, as even a 
slightly higher resistance in one of the contact pairs will cause more 
current to flow through the others.

As a ROUGH rule of thumb, I overshoot by 50% or so.  That is, if I feel 
that 5 amps is worst case and the contacts are only good for 2 amps, I 
use four, for a "theoretical" total of 8 amps.  I just mentally derate 
the 8 amps to 5.
