Alex, I did a pastebin of dmesg following boot of the kernel where I selected 586/K5/5x86/6x86/6x86MX for the processor family: http://pastebin.com/m6763cacd
It clearly seems to detect only one processor. The regular debian kernel correctly detects 4 processors. I am not sure what you mean by try a regular debian smp kernel.
