What sets it?  You do :-P

If you configure with --run-in-place, you have to create the symlink. 
Sorry...  Just so you dont think i'm a total jerk, the manpage actually 
says this (in the firmware part in the section on the config modparam) 
and gives an example of the ln command line to use.
