Meanwhile, I patched in a lowpass filter the same way, and with limited testing it seems to help in the same way. I have it set now to give a 400 ms acceleration to the spindle speed command, and the drive no longer faults. I'll have to actually cut some more threads tomorrow and test it some more.
Just an aside, I see that the lowpass component has some more parameters that don't show up in the documentation.
