It depends on what you want. Replacing Gnome session with DWM is just a
stripping down list of services that are launched on session start.
It's possible to deny everything except mouse clicks (as it's used in true
kiosk installations) but for CNC applications it's not important. So in
setup i've described you still have ability to start extra apps (terminal,
nautilus, gedit etc...). For example for my customer i've added 'edit config'
option in menu that starts gedit on config file. Also you may logout current
session and log in with Gnome and usual set of features.
Another option for config edits would be to register keyboard shortcut or menu
item to launch nautilus (or thunar which is better for such things) on config
directory.
