As Andy said PNCconf is part of the live CD but is an 'alpha' version so you
must run it from a terminal.
If you are at the moment just trying to feel out the software and look at the
HAL code but not
actually run hardware, then this version is fine.
If you have the hardware now then I would suggest one of two options before
using PNCconf.
upgrade to the latest 2.4 version (2.4.7) - if you install EMC from the liveCD
and are connected to
the Internet this will happen automatically after a while.
Or IMHO better - download the soon-to-be-released :) version 2.5 from buildbot.
PNCconf is better and has more bug fixes, as well as EMC has more features.
Either way you will need to download hostmot2 firmwares if you want to try real
hardware.
The 5i20 has been supported by EMC for a long time. Whether it is most suited
really depends on
how many general I/O points you will need and whether you need any special
firmware.
For instance the firmware SVST8_4 set up for 5 PWM and 5 encoders will give you
aprox 40
I/O points for limits switches or such.
Unfortunately PNCconf does not configure 5 axis machines. ( I think you know
this)
But of course you can take the HAL code EMC makes and edit it to what you want.
Does the machine you are building use trivalkins? PNCconf only builds configs
for
trivalkins machine. It is relativity simple to add more configurable axis to
pncconf
but I assume 5 axis requires some odd configuration settings that I am not sure
of.
I would love to add 5 axis ability to PNCconf if it can be a relatively
'common' set up.
Hope that helps.
