Lee: I haven't used VMware since I retired some years ago but I routinely run various Linix'en in VirtualBox. VirtualBox seems to be equivalent to VMware in functionality for what I do. Right now, I have a Windows7 host with VirtualBox running a full virtual Ubuntu development-environment for LinuxCNC. It was trivial to setup and works great. I have pulled from various git branches as the spirit moves me. The only difference from running Ubuntu on bare metal is that I build only LinuxCNC simulators for testing. One of the things I really like is the ability to build a "master" disk image of some distribution and then "clone" it whenever I feel the need to run from a clean copy, or want to have try out variants side-by-side. No matter how badly I screw up, I can be back on the air in a matter of minutes. Sure beats reinstalling from an iso. By the way, this approach makes sense to me with either a Linux- or Windows-based real host. I have seen no downside here. What is your concern?
