That reduces the positional accuracy to 39 positions per rev, or to 
9.2307692307692307692 degrees per step.  For threading, that could begin to 
affect the quality of the threads I would think.  Not tested of course.

To maintain the scale, would that not also require resetting 
encoder.0.position-scale to 39.00 from its current 4x or 156.00 value?  My 
teeny wheel has 39 slots.
