I think either of the two above is good enough to achieve the goal, so I
support both of the two options above.

(that's to be understood modulo my kraut-legal roots)

The below is personal opinion and does not void my support for the above.

My personal preference would be a permissive license - GPL-type licenses are on
the vane and for good reasons, one of which we are discussing here; I wouldnt
call that choice irrational but it might not be a realistic and agreeable goal
for the this project.

Personally I'm not in any way bothered by the fear some terribly bad company
could run away with my most valuable contributions; my observation is that some
of these concerns are at times based on geek vanity which might not be wired
all that firmly in reality.

View it like the punch line in the 'Hitler uses git' video on youtube: ".. he
admitted writing crappy code to jack up consulting rates!.."

I'v heard the remark "The GPL is doing well, look at the linux kernel" in this
community.

As for 'doing well': Just ask yourself who would be using the linux kernel if
'running on the linux kernel' had the same infective power as 'linking with a
GPL-only library'. That thing would be dead faster than the annual Microsoft
mobile phone operating system release, and everybody would run screaming.
