I've written up an initial requirements document for the future LinuxCNC 
middleware which is to replace NML/RCS.

I wrote this up since I am engaged in an offlist discussion on reuse of an 
existing middleware project, so I decided to spell out what I think is needed. 
This document might eventually be firmed up by using RFC2119 language (MUST/MAY 
etc), and enhanced by a section showing how the zeroMQ/protobuf vehicle can be 
used to address these requirements.
