Greetings all;

Who is in charge of pncconf?

It does a loadrt of 4 copies of a mux16 under various names, but in my
quest to make it work, whatever function it may have been intended to do
could well be bypassed in my currant .ini and .hal files.

So I have a question and an observation, and I'll start with the
observation.

When driving a pwm driven circuit, it is required that there be unity
gain between the pid.output and the pwmgen input, this is so that a max
output can be defined in the pid setup that represents a 98% duty cycle
pwm output, aka maximum speed if free running. But the pncconf outputs
that path with a backgear hi/lo setting scaler after the pid, destroying
any limits one tries to establish with the pid.s.maxoutput setting.
This is not a long term workable idea IMO.

The question however, has to do with the use of all those mux16's,
supposedly selected by halui buttons from my reading of the code which
may not be the correct interpretation of what I am reading.

So, can the author of pncconf please explain to me, or point me at some
docs that explain just what it is that pncconf is trying to accomplish.

Start with where do I find these halui buttons?, they do not seem to
exist when I start LinuxCNC.

I faintly recall weeks ago that I had nuked a filename in the ini file
because the stuff it needed was not available, likely not even installed
and I had more pressing problems, so I nuked it and went on to solve the
more important things, like building an optical encoder, hooking up
limit switches yadda yadda. Now I have that done, home_all works and
spindle controls working even if the obtained speeds are off as much as
20%.

Thank you.

Cheers, Gene Heskett
