So often is a report like this bounced with an "it works here" response, that I appreciate the pat on the back now & then.
But the real problem is that I have a part or parts to make just to put a decent ball screw in this new to me Sheldon lathe. And this brings everything to a screeching halt. That kit to put an er40 collet adapter in a 5C hole arrived today, along with a kit of er40's in 1/16" increments, $139 on my front deck, as did the 8x2 wheel/tire to use for a 5C draw tube spin handle also arrived, but now I need to find a 6.375" long steel rod 2.1" in diameter that I can bore out to about 1.135" ID to clear the draw tubes OD to act as a spacer between the wheel and the entrance of the endplay adjuster nut on the outside end of this Sheldon lathes spindle. That needs a thicker wall than 2" iron or galvanized pipe can supply. The 2.1" is so I can put a self centering taper on the end that goes into the adjuster nut on the back of the spindle, on one end of the spacer, thereby holding the draw tube pretty concentric. I may have to fire up the weed eater tomorrow so I can find my iron pile and check for a suitable light gage tubing I can fit ends to. But I don't recall tossing something like that into the pile over the last 26 years. OTOH, the wet ram is 81 yo, so its possible its been forgotten. Don't go and get old guys, its not all its cracked up to be. :( Cheers, Gene Heskett -- "There are four boxes to be used in defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury, and ammo.
