Well, linuxcnc should save the tool number of the tool in the spindle in persistent state, where it could be reloaded if necessary. I often have the problem, that machine gets confused with tool-numbers and machine reports a tool in spindle, that is not in the spindle, but stil in atc. That's a big source for crashes if you don't be aware of. And its a tedious job to fix that situation.
