Chaz asks re: CE marking of large equipment which is broken down
into separate containers for shipping. This is a common issue. I usually
recommend that the company CE mark the outside of the container or package
with the main part of the equipment which is marked with the CE marking
along with 'piece 1 of n'. The remainder of the containers then should be
marked as 'piece 2 of n', etc... This removes the customs confusion over
the shipment it is obviously multiple pieces... The CE marking on the 1st
container clearly shows marking for compliance; a Manufacturer's
Declaration of Conformity included with the shipping papers removes any
further confusion. Marking of the shipping package and including the MDoC
with the shipping papers is a short term strategy to minimize the customs
confusion until it is commonly acknowledged most that all incoming
equipment is in compliance. Marking of the equipment, of course, will be
required in perpetuity.
