Comment on the use of PVC: I would recommend an A/B characterization over the frequency range you'll be testing. In my past life doing ionospheric experiments at low frequencies...sub 500 kHz...I discovered that black PVC is anything but transparent to RF. White PVC was useable. Worth checking.
