To all, This is in reference to a recent debate concerning the limit/restriction of TVSS devices that connect to chassis/earth inside equipment, such as AC mains-to-ground. It is my understanding that this came from a Cenelec decision (6/98, I believe) which was taken from the 'List of decisions from CENELEC Operational Staff Meeting for Electronic Equipment (OSM/EE) minutes. This was/is, I also believe, because there was a big concern about a possible increase in leakage current if a TVSS device had been exposed to several mains transients.
As I do not have the actual decision available, is this the actual decision? If so, great. If not, please inform me and the rest of the group what the actual decision is. Either way, I would certainly appreciate a copy of this decision for future reference. If anyone has a copy, would it be possible to forward me a copy (emailable - great, fax - let me know & I'll give you my fax number). Also, are MOV's the only TVSS device that's restricted with this decision or are all TVSS devices forbidden? Please advise. Thanks in advance and, as always, comments are welcome.
