Probably. There is a commercial aspect: suppliers of 'good' cables, with
high-quality shielding and ferrite rings, don't want to be undercut by
damp string imported by Sum Yung Gai.

I believe they are to be tested for emissions and immunity as part of a
'typical' (compliant) system.
