In North America, orange outlets are normally isolated ground outlets. The color does not signify the voltage. Only the outlet pin configuration is used to determine the voltage.
On most North American outlets, the ground connection on the outlet is connected to the outlet mounting frame. When the outlet is installed, the ground is automatically connected to the electrical box. If metal boxes and conduits are used, this connects the ground through the conduit in addition to the wired ground. The ground screw on an orange outlet is not connected to the mounting frame. If these outlets are installed in a metal box, the only ground connection will be through a ground wire to the electrical distribution panel. They are often used in applications where ground loops would be a problem. Just did some reading on the National Electric Code online and cannot find this rule anywhere. What gives?
